Boxee Secures an Additional $6 Million in Funding

August 16, 2009 by admin

boxee_logoBoxee, the start-up company that won the inaugural i-stage competition just secured another $6 million in financing.  We say “another” because last year they raised $4 million from various venture capitalists following their big win.

There’s no doubt the secret to their success was developing a truly great product at the perfect time and getting amazing early exposure for it. You may remember that part of their i-stage prize, in addition to a check for $50,000, was a booth at the 2009 International CES where they were able to demonstrate their product to thousands of attendees as well as generating media attention on an international scale.

We congratulate Boxee on their continued success!

Minoru 3D Webcam Gains a New Dimension at i-stage

hp1After winning “Fan Favorite” at i-stage last year, the Minoru 3D webcam got its first public showing at the International CES in January. “There has been tremendous interest in the Minoru 3D Webcam, and I’m excited to finally have products that people can try out,” said Minoru designer David Holder. Indeed, Minoru’s CES debut was covered in innumerable blogs and news sites like Engadget, Discover Magazine, CNET, NBC, BBC and more. Yet another illustration of how i-stage and a CES debut garner critical attention for your product launch.

Where Are They Now: Boxee

Mr. Roboto knows how to write a hefty check.Want proof that i-stage is the right platform for your product launch? Over the next few months we’ll take a look back at some of the products launched at the inaugural i-stage, beginning with the judges’ pick from last year, Boxee.

Launched from last year’s i-stage to their major debut at CES, Boxee, a portal for web-based content and entertainment, was named by BusinessWeek as one of the 20 Most Important Inventions of the Next Ten Years. The New York Times documented Boxee being swarmed by dozens of CTOs at their CES debut, and within a month of winning i-stage, they had raised over $4 million in venture capital funding.

“On the first day of the Consumer Electronics Show … two dozen chief technology officers from the country’s largest cable operators visited the [i-stage winner] Boxee’s demonstration area. Then they told their colleagues, who swarmed Boxee’s booth over the next three days of the show.”

Way to go, team Boxee!
